How does SaltyPay work and get paid?

Think of us as a free consultant/expert and service provider in the payment processing industry. SaltyPay places business with several of the major processors and gateways in Canada and we are paid by those partners to bring them new business. With us, you will always have a direct relationship with your processor of choice, backed by SaltyPay’s pricing, support and expertise. You will never see a bill from SaltyPay and we do not touch or manage your processed funds, but you will have us as your account manager for the life of the agreement.

Why work with SaltyPay rather than direct with a processor?

Do you like buying your meat from Costco or from your local butcher? Now, imagine if your local butcher also gave back 50% of their revenue to community projects. OK, that’s us!

Are your solutions cheaper than Square?

This is a common question on Salt Spring where many small businesses are looking to Square as a modern and simple POS/payments solution with a flat rate that is easy to understand. The short answer is “Yes”, there are solutions out there, like Clover or Poynt, that can do everything you love about Square but with far lower processing fees (but more monthly fees due to equipment rental). So, I always say, if you are doing less than $20,000/mo in credit card payments, Square is an excellent choice for you, unless there’s something it can’t do that is mission critical for your business.

Do you just provide payment processing or POS systems as well?

Several processors now have all-in-one solutions that serve as your POS and payments, similar to Square (example: Clover). These can be great solutions for a very small business. For businesses with more robust POS needs, we offer integrated payment solutions into your existing POS. If you are in the market for a new POS, we can also make introductions to POS companies we think will be a great fit for you. We know them all (almost).

I actually like my current processor but would love to work with SaltyPay. Is this possible?

Depending on your current processor, yes, it is sometimes possible to reboard your account with your existing processor but at SaltyPay’s rates and with SaltyPay as your account manager. Other times, no, you will have to switch processors to take advantage of our pricing and services. The only way to determine this is on a discovery call. We handhold through all switches to ensure they are smooth with zero downtime and, ideally, no cancellation fees.

I think my rates are already amazing but I’d love to work together. Can we still chat?

Unless your processing is free, there is always room to move.
